Colonel Chavan was commissioned into the Indian Army in 1974 after completing his training from the Officers Training Academy (OTA), Chennai, and joined the Army Air Defence Corps.
During his long and distinguished military career, he gained extensive regimental experience while serving alongside infantry units and various formations across challenging operational environments.
Field Experience
His field experience spans the North-Eastern regions of India, Northern border areas, and several high-responsibility operational postings. He served with different regiments and formations, including significant exposure to the Assam Rifles, enabling him to develop strong operational expertise, adaptability, and leadership in demanding conditions.
